Paphos was once the capital city of Cyprus during the reign of the Ptolemies, successors of Alexander the Great. During those times, its harbour was one of the Mediterranean’s busiest ports. For more than seven centuries, Paphos remained as Cyprus’ capital city. It was one of Rome’s most important cities under the rule of the Roman governor Sergius Paulus who was converted by St. Paul into Christianity in AD 45. The entire Paphos area is filled with archaeological and historical treasure that dates back even before the Roman Empire.
