Preceded by its rich past particularly the central role it played in the Aegean Bronze Age of Greek history, Crete is one of the largest and most prosperous regions in all Greece. The western peaks of Crete often experience mild snowfall from November to May while the eastern portion rarely experiences snowfall. Winter in the overall Cretan scene is moderate. Meanwhile, longer summers are felt in the south coast of Crete which includes the Messara plain and Asterousia ranges because this portion falls under the North African climate. Incidentally, the northern coast of Crete is famous for its harbors such as Suda Bay.
