There is a wealth of heritage in this place; go on a pilgrimage tour to the town of Lourdes, and spend a solemn afternoon in its grotto and healing pools; see the fine collection of master artist Toulouse-Lautrec as well as the grand Cathedrale Ste. Cecile which took two centuries to build in the town of Albi; marvel at the ancient bastide town of Gimont, with its wonderful terracotta roofed, natural stone houses, and sample some of the finest foie gras available in its market. In Midi-Pyrenees, one may feel an innate sense of celebration. There are gourmet outings in the Gers, Jazz Festivals in Marciac and Bullfighting spectacles in Gimont. And everywhere, the people of Midi-Pyrenees are hospitable, friendly and very accommodating. Climate in the Midi-Pyrenees is pleasantly warm during summers, but tempered by gentle breeze, with the mountainous areas a lot cooler and wetter. There are many facilities for most outdoor, leisure and recreation activities in Midi-Pyrenees: Blagnac has a huge sports center and offers horseback riding, water sports and golf. The river Lot is a popular rafting and canoeing spot. Millau is a good paragliding point. The plateau of Mount Albac is perfect for snowshoe hiking. The Pyrenees Mountains offers excellent skiing slopes. And for complete relaxation, there are also the many spa towns that offer the best in beauty and body treatments. The local gourmet produce of Midi-Pyrenees is something worth visiting. Their foie gras, beaf and bean stew, and Roquefort cheese are popular all over France. The local vineyards produce some of the best wines in southwestern France. And Gascony produces its most famous Armagnac, the oldest of French brandies. Midi-Pyrenees is easily accessible, with an international airport right in Toulouse, and very good road networks and train systems. Communication systems are good. Indeed, despite the gentler way of life in this region, amenities and services bringing the comforts and convenience of urban living are within easy reach. Gaining popularity as a region of choice by would be second home owners, real estate property prices have been steadily on the rise in Midi-Pyrenees, with the Gers being the most expensive location. Prices of townhouses here are at 170,000€ - 240,000€. However, many good bargains are still to be found in the Aveyron and the Tarn areas. There are a lot of wonderful country homes and properties with old stone farmhouses which are selling at very cheap prices.
