Lifestyle in this region is gentle and refined, and the climate mild and temperate. The long summers allow for cycling activities along the gently rolling hills south of Centre, golfing, horseback riding or pleasant strolls along the pathways of the steeper hills. Fishing and swimming are also offered along the Loire river spots. The landscape of Centre boasts of some of the finest architecture, including the famous Cathedral in Chartres, known as the finest gothic cathedral in the country, and the Chateaux de Blois, once occupied by Louis XII. There is a certain bourgeois atmosphere in Centre, particularly in Orleans, once the intellectual capital of France. Artists, poets, and writers continue to be part of the scenery in this region. Tourism in Orleans is a major industry, owing to its fame as the city that Joan of Arc rescued from siege. Orleans also offers good eclectic cuisine, from Indian to African, in its many fine restaurants. Highly accessible with good motorways and train systems, Centre’s industrial sectors are stable with automotive parts, tires and plastics as major products. It is also a leading producer of corn, wheat and barley, and is famous for its Cabernet, Pinot and Sauvignon grapes. Centre’s tourism activities are centered on the Loire Valley’s chateaux, and its impressive cathedrals. Properties in these areas are quite expensive, but begin to drop farther away from the Loire. The southern part of the region, specifically Indre and Cher usually offer the best buys and the lowest prices in the whole of France. Average prices for apartments are at 120,000€, with villas at 250,000€. « Return to Centre |
