Bourgogne can boast of an equally impressive landscape. With a history of occupation by the Celts, Romans and Germanic tribes, it is a land scattered with churches and shrines and plenty of architecturally significant buildings, yet with nature wonderfully flowing all around. Along the hilly areas of the Parc de Morvan are nature trails that are popular walking paths. This area is seeing growth now as there are some village houses and farmhouses that are available for reasonable prices. Aside from trekking and walking which are the main past times of the nature lover, one may be a bit more adventurous and try canal boating and hot air ballooning. Bourgogne’s waterways stretch to 1200km, some of which were canals built in the 17th and 19th-century. Climate in Bourgogne is continental, with long winters and short summers. Its capital is Dijon, which, aside from being famous for its mustard, contains a young population and is a large university town which is also known as a center for European art. Dijon houses the famous Musée des Beaux-Arts, with an impressive collection ranging from medieval to impressionist. Prices prices in Bourgogne are much cheaper around the less popular areas such as Morvan. Cote d'Or, on the other hand, is an area which has a high demand and sales see quick turn around here. A renovated 18th century vicarage built of stone with oak wood flooring situated in Cote d'Or can go as high as 450,000€. Bourgogne is a very industrialized region, with a diverse mix of both small and medium scale businesses as well as multi-national corporations. Its key industries include the Agri-food, Electricity and Electronics, and Automotive. The wealth of this region is certainly more than its fine wines and rich landscapes. Fertile land and a well preserved architecture, fine art and great wines, wonderful transportation systems and a strong and solid economy, this combination of delights make Bourgogne a place that one may enjoy for a truly long time. « Return to Bourgogne |
