Vizcaya-Bizkaia information, Spain

One of the smallest provinces in Spain in terms of total land area is Vizcaya. Compared to other provinces, the land area of 2,240 square kilometers is significantly lesser. However, what is more interesting about Vizcaya is that despite its limited land area, the population is still high at 1.1 million as of the latest headcount. Total density or land to population ratio is among the highest in all of Spain.

Vizcaya is surrounded by the Spanish provinces of Burgos and Cantabria in the province's west side; Alava in the south; the Cantabrian Sea in the north and the province of Guipuzcoa in the east side. The prevailing climate is mild, characterized by humid winters and very warm and dry summers. Rainfall or precipitation is more frequent during the spring and autumn seasons. The average rainfall all year out is simply adequate to give way to the province's very lush vegetation. In the higher portions of lands, or the mountainous areas, winter is much colder and at times is characterized by snow.

There are three main valleys that can be found in Vizcaya. These are the Ibaizabal, the Kadagua and the Nervion. You know that valleys are great plantation and faming venues because of the rich topsoil condition and the very fertile state of lands due to the free flow or fivers from the mountains. That is especially true in case of the valleys in Vizcaya.

Along the coastal areas of the province can be found the port and fishing villages of Baquio, Ondarroa, Bermeo, Elanchove and Lequeitio. Catching the attention of tourists in such areas are the boats that are multi-colored and attractively designed to please the eyes of bystanders. Fish products are also abundant because local fishermen always have plenty of catches.

On the other side, historical villas are very much apparent and present along the inland areas of the province. The mountain valleys are ornamented and filled by the cool and green landscape of forests and plains that are intermingling with hamlets. Basque houses are particularly present and numerously found in the municipalities of Durango, Marquina, Elorrio, Valmaseda and Guernica.

Traditions and folklores generally arouse the interest of tourists. One good thing about the province is that its local inhabitants are warm and cordial, not allowing visitors to feel ostracized or alienated by cultural differences. In terms of exotic and local dishes, vacationers are almost always craving for codfish, stew, mushrooms, hake in sauce and baby eels.

The capital city is called Bilbao. The city houses well-developed and progressive business districts. The city is artistically significant because it is the site to Fine Arts Museum. In terms of finances, Bilbao is a city where most progressive banks in the country and headquartered.

For people who are looking out for prospective property investments, considering getting assets in the Vizcaya can be viable and lucrative. Available land area is rather small, thus, there is a high demand, lesser available land parcels. Consequently, tag prices of real estate assets are more expensive in the province.
