Toledo information, Spain

Toledo is a centre for European medieval history. Getting a walk around the province and its various cities would give a nostalgic feeling, as if you are walking way back in time during the medieval ages. History has it that Toledo was the capital city of Spain during the time between the Gothic epoch and the year 1560. That designation of the province is the reason why the medieval architecture that is widely evident in the province is truly impressive and genuine.

Geographically, Toledo is located in central Spain. It is part of the Castile-La Mancha autonomous region. The province is surrounded by the Spanish provinces of Cuenca, Badajoz, Avila, Caceres, Ciudad Real and the national capital of Madrid. Toledo has a total headcount of just above 500,000 inhabitants. The province has 204 municipalities that are all oozing with historical landmarks and remnants of the Middle Ages.

In the north of country can be found the Gredos mountain that gives the province cool breeze and less hot weather during summer. In the south can be located the River Tagus which serves as water reservoir and source of irrigation. Fishing is also possible and widely practiced along the premises of the river.

Actually, Toledo is rising on a high altitude. That is because the province itself is standing proud from a hill that makes the River Tagus make a very sharp and abrupt bend. The fortificated province is geographically pleasant. History wise, Toledo can be considered as an important parameter when talking about the Middle Age history of Spain.

Declared by the United Nations as an important World heritage in 1986 is the capital city of Toledo, also called Toledo. The world organization said the city has numerous monumental heritage and has an extensive culture. In the records, Toldeo city had been one of the very rare urban capitals in the past where the Moorish, Jewish and Catholic cultures co-existed peacefully and harmoniously.

Among the city's historical treasures are the cathedral, the central marketplace of Zocodover and the Alcazar. Toledo city is said to be a pretty combination of old architecture and the sophistication of the modern times. Thus, many tourists are interested and highly curious about the wonders and the explicit sights that Toledo offer to everyone.
