With its average island land area, Tenerife has a relatively large population base. As of the latest count, local and permanent inhabitants of the island have reached more than 850,000. Not included in the head count are the millions of tourists that annually flock Tenerife. The landscapes prevailing in the island also varies. Interestingly, Tenerife is noted for the presence of an active, yet harmless volcano known as Caņadas del Teide. The crater of the volcano measures 20 kilometers and has a height of about 3,700 meters. The presence of the volcano explains the very fertile valley that is serving as a conducive breeding and nourishment ground for various crops and plants like tomatoes and bananas. Take note that although situated in island, Teide is notably the highest peak in the country. The climate across the island also varies accordingly. In the northern area, prevailing climate is humid, making up for the green vegetation. On the southern portion is where tourist-clad beaches are more popular because of the dry climate. Rainfall also varies throughout the seasons. During summer, precipitation is logically and usually low but on winter, rains can be scattered and are more frequent. There are 31 municipalities within the premises of the island. The most popular and well heard of are Fasnia, Guimar, Los Silos, El Rosario, Candelaria and Arafo. Villages in Guimar are inciting curiosity among tourists because they are the sites of the very mysterious structures known as Pyramids of Guimar. The pyramids, found in the eastern coast of the island, has six-step pyramids that have rectangular and attractive ground plan. Like most islands in the Canaries, tourism industry is the major source of income and employment among local people. Every year, millions of vactioners and trevelers go to Tenerife. Thus, there are numerous hotels and lodges to cater to such visitors. The southern area of the island is the more frequented by tourists who come to enjoy beach resorts. Nightlife in Tenerife is equally fabulous as the overall tourist features of the island. To cater to the party mode of tourists from all around the world, many bars and party establishments are located across the coast line. The nightlife makes the island more interesting especially when one sees how the surroundings transform from beach fronts to party venues when dusk sets in. Real estate industry is thriving, although properties are highly valuated and are expensively sold. There are commercial and residential centers and owning assets can be a significant investment. Most property investors in Tenerife are affluent and are using the assets as some form of resthouses or vacation properties. « Return to Tenerife |
