Orense-Ourense information, Spain

Included in the provinces forming the autonomous region of Galicia in northwest of Spain is Ourense. Having an total land area of about 7,300 square kilometers, the province is surrounded by the Spanish provinces of Zamora and Leon to the east, Lugo to the north and Pontevedra to the west. Ourense is also bordered by the neighboring country of Portugal to its south area.

Ourense has always been considered as a separate or isolated province in Spain. That is because it is practically and securely surrounded by several mountains that separate and isolate the province to the neighboring country and provinces. In the past, Ourense had been totally shunned from the circulation and was seldom cooperating and getting in touch with other provinces. The geographical mountainous feature of the Ourense helped the province become isolated and not influenced by neighboring provinces. In the past, the mountains were also the reason why Ourense stayed secure and guarded against hostile conquerors.

Currently, Ourense is linked with other Spanish provinces by a major highway. The road directly connects the major roads of the province to those that are in the nearby cities of Benevente and Vido, in the east and in the west, respectively. Prior to the construction of the road, railroads were instrumental in connecting Ourense with other provinces and cities.

Because there are mountains, it is just natural and expected that the climate is cool. Summers are not too hot because of the cool air coming down from the mountains. Winters are cold like in the neighboring provinces. When there are mountains, there are of course, valleys. A significant land area of Ourense can be considered as valleys. Thus, corn and grapes are the principal agricultural and crop products from the province. Ourense is also known as a principal exporter of European chestnuts.

Two rivers are flowing within the premises of the province. The first one is the river of Limia and the other is the river of Tamega. Thus, fishing and river activities can be done and conducted in the area. The rivers also provide for a significant amount of water supply for all needs of the whole province.

Capital city of the province is also called Ourense, and is located near the center of the province. In the outskirts of the city can be found numerous structures that flaunt Romanesque features. The flour mills, sawmills and iron foundries also make interesting features that appeal to the attention of tourists.

The real estate industry in the province is truly growing. Many property developers are now flocking into Ourense to develop significant land areas of attractive and well-placed land parcels. The overall architecture and design of such real estates are also being recognized and admired the world over. The tourism industry is not as active as compared to other tourist destinations in Spain, but many workers and people hoping to get decent and attractive earning opportunities are flocking to construct homes or rent places across the province. Ourense is a good place to buy assets.
