The region is surrounded by the Spanish provinces of Granada, Almeria, Albacete and the region of Castilla-La Mancha. Further in the southeast can be seen the Mediterranean Sea. Like most provinces local provinces along the coast, there are numerous beach resorts along the coastline of the region. Murcia region is not well known for its beach resorts but tourists could assert that those beach sites to be found in the region could be at par and could be competitive with the popular beach centers around the country. Total population in Murcia is estimated to be at 1.2 million currently. A third of the population is said to be living in the capital. Combined land area is at 11,300 square kilometres. Murcia, the region, is very well know to be an exporter of flowers, vegetables and fruits not just for the local and Spanish markets, but also to some nearby countries in Europe. Good wines are also produced in the region as well as olive oil. Segura river is the main river flowing within Murcia, but the river is affluent with four other free flowing rivers like the Guadalentin, Mula, Mundo and Alharabe. Thus, fishing, especially for trout, can also be a good income and leisure activity. The prevailing climate in the region is warm, making Murcia a very suitable place for budding agriculture. Average rainfall is lower, but water supply, particularly for irrigation, is not scarce since Segura is adequately providing water needs for vegetation. The mild weather is what makes many tourists prefer sunbathing and enjoying the beaches in the coastline. The city of Murcia is the capital of the region. Geographically, the city is very well identified with the river of Segura. Murcia-San Javier Airport is the main hub that connects the region and the capital city with the rest of the world. The nearby airport at the adjacent province of Alicante is also usually used by tourists as a gateway to Murcia. Some historical and antique structures to be found in Murcia are the Cathedral of Cartagena, the Bishop’s Palace, the Sta. Maria Cathedral and the Plaza de Sto. Domingo. The Glorietta is an interesting avenue to be at, and provides an analogy to the modern-time Madison Square in New York. To be expected is the high valuation for most property developments and real estate assets in the region. Because tourists are usually flocking to the region during peak time for beaches, expect that property developers have taken note of that, making prices of real estate in Murcia higher and at premium levels. However, that surely would and should not discourage you from taking property investments in the region. « Return to Murcia |
