Lleida information, Spain

If you aim to see the most beautiful mountains in Spain, you should go to Lleida. The province is situated in the northeastern part of the country, within the western portion of the autonomous region of Catalonia. Lleida is surrounded by the Spanish provinces of Tarragona, Huesca, Barcelona, Girona and Zaragoza. At its northern tip, the province is touching grounds with the territories of Andorra and France.

The beautiful mountain range of Lleida serves as a border with France. That same mountain range is also the boundary between the country and Andorra. There are popular valleys adjacent to the mountain ranges, including Aneu, Cardos, Aran, Assua and Ribagorza-Bohi. These areas are very much conducive for agriculture. Properties are also developed for both residential and commercial purposes.

The province has a mild climate that is prevalent all throughout the year. Because of the presence of the mountain range, temperature in the province is still cool and gentle even during summer months. That is the reason why many forms of vegetation abound in the area. Particularly, the fruit-growing sector is most abundant and lucrative, especially for farmers harvesting and merchandising peaches and pears.

The population of about 400,000 is scattered around the middle-sized overall land area. There are about 231 municipalities that make up the province. About 30% of those inhabitants are situated and living in the capital with the same name as the province. Major language spoken by folk is Catalan. As a matter of fact, the city is also delegated as a Catalan culture capital.

Lleida is basically famous for its merrymaking and festive commemoration of different feasts, a traditional and usual characteristic of Catholic nations. The festival of Latin-American cinema is held annually, as well as a yearly animation film fest that is known as Animac, held every May. Other traditional feasts include Aplec del Cargol, Festa Major, Fira de Sant Miquel. In the outskirts of Lleida city is also held the Senglar Rock festival.

In all of Spain, Lleida is considered the national center for basketball fanatics. Many young boys and girls are joining leagues and different associations for basketball. Football is also a national interest among sports enthusiasts.

The overall provincial revenue is generated from the agriculture and the tourism industries. Livestock breeding and raising is a good source of income as well as hunting among visitors. The mountain range also facilitates for the leisure habit of mountain climbing, hiking and skiing. Thus, it is noticeable that most tourists coming to the province is for physical activities.
