As an independent and autonomous island in Spain, Lanzarote has a big population. As of the latest count, the total number of inhabitants in the country is at about 125,000, who are well and equally distributed across the island’s total land area of 845 square kilometers. The capital city and official residence of government in the island is Arrecife. The main and prevailing industry that supplies income to the island of course is tourism. It is said that Lanzarote has been enjoying huge tourist patronage for the past 40 years already. Overall climate is temperate as temperature range from being mild to being hot at certain months of the year. Trade winds influence the prevailing weather and wind that breezes and blows to the island. One major setback is that because of trade winds coming from Africa and the Atlantic Ocean, there are several times of the year when there are sandstorms. The sand carried by such storms comes from the Sahara desert. It is noted that during sandstorms, temperature can go above 40 degrees Celsius and overall visibility at the outdoors can significantly drop. Historically, Lanzarote is popular and well known especially in the field of world geology. It is a known fact that well known and respected geologist Alfred Wegener went to the island in 1912 to study the island’s geography and basic features as part of his then-launched Continental Drift Theory. The study concluded that Lanzarote has been formed from the physical split up of the continental plates of America and Africa. UNESCO has declared the island under the protection of Biosphere Reserve, which is a symbolism of world recognition over the beauty and nature of the island. Thus, many tourists fall curious and are ending up going to Lanzarote and enjoying to the max the island’s rich and exquisite natural features. Real estate industry is very active and highly valuated in the island. If you aim to own a property in the Lanzarote, be prepared to invest a significant amount of money.
