The province of A Coruña is so far the Spanish province that is facing most of the Atlantic Ocean in the northwest. A Coruña is one of the provinces, there are four, that makes up the autonomous region of Galicia. Aside from being bordered by the Atlantic on the north and on the west, the province is surrounded by the provinces of Pontevedra in the south and Lugo in the east. A Coruña has been one of Spain’s oldest commercial ports and fishing villages. That is quite logical because of the obvious geographical feature of the province. The history of A Coruña could be traced back to in the Celtic settlement. However, most historians note that the province became worthwhile and significant during the times of the Roman empire. During that time, the province was a port that was an important center for sailing routes and trades. As a proof of the province’s importance to Roman dwellers, a lighthouse was erected in the capital city also called A Coruña--- Tower of Hercules. The lighthouse currently serves as a major and identity landmark as well as a city symbol. Romanesque architecture is very much present and evident in the still standing old structures that could be found in the province. The oldest church in A Coruña, called Church of Santiago, built in the 14th or 15th centuries, is very much reminiscent and demonstrative of the Roman influence. In terms of religious importance, the province is where Santiago de Compostela city could be found. The city is where the Santiago de Compostela cathedral is located. The cathedral is known historically and religiously as a burying ground for the relics of St. James the Great, who is the patron saint of the defenders of the faith. St James is one of the two apostles of Jesus Christ who are both named James. Thus, the province is a host yearly of annual pilgrimage of the devotees of St. James not just from Spain but from all around the world. Aside from being a major port province, there are also other attractions that can be found in A Coruña. There are three national parks, namely, the national parks of Fragas, Corrubedo and the Atlantic Islands of the Galicia. There are numerous well developed and operational fishing ports that are operating in the province. Some of the most popular are found in Malpica, Fisterra, Cariño, Espasante, Cedeira and Camariñas. In the municipality of Ferrol could be found a major military and commercial port that is operating in significant importance currently. Real estate industry in A Coruña is on the rise. That is because many people are starting to recognize the potential and promising features of the province and of its major cities. Some people are flocking to the province abruptly because they know there are too many business opportunities that could open up for them.
