Huelva is located in the southwestern portion of Spain. The province is located in the Gulf of Cadiz, where the rivers Odiel and Rio Tinto are confluent. The capital city, just like most Spanish provinces, is also called Huelva. As of 2005, the population of the province is at about 500,000. Close to half of those inhabitants are concentrated in the capital city. The local economy of Huelva is very much dependent on mining and agriculture. There are a few mining firms that operate in the mining areas of the province. The mining reserves are said to be abundant in iron, aluminum and tin deposits. As for agriculture, there are many farms that also actively produce harvests. The rich quality of the soil and the very ideal climate makes up for good crop cultivation. Throughout the year, coastal climate in the province is very mild at an average of just around 18 degrees Celsius. Huelva is significant to Spain’s modern history. First, the province is the first in the country to have experienced an actual landfall of a cyclone. In October 2005, tropical depression code named Vince landed on the coast of Huelva, getting to the record as the first ever cyclone to have landed in the continental Spain. Fortunately, the cyclone was not that strong as no damages nor casualties were reported. The oldest Spanish football or soccer team also originated from Huelva. Recreativo de Huelva is in the records of being the oldest sports team in all of Spain. The team was founded and organized in 1889 and is still actively playing and participating in various soccer events not just in the country but also offshore. Huelva is a Spansih province where it is a wide practice to eat shellfish and pork. There are really delectable pork dishes that are cooked and served by Huelva’s folk and inhabitants, including the very luscious pork sausages, which are actually made in the mountains. Like most Spanish provinces, there are also extravagant feasts like the Carnaval and the feast of San Sebastian every January 20. Overall, the real estate industry in the province is very much promising. Huelva is not too popular among tourists, but there are still enough reasons why property investors would see acquiring assets in the province as a worthwhile and profit-generating activity. « Return to Huelva |
