Gomera information, Spain

One of the seven islands of the Canary Islands is very well known for its distinct wine. La Gomera is the smallest of the group of islands, but is among the most popular and the most historic. Lying in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean and is almost near Africa, La Gomera is an island, that like all the other Canary islands, that is volcanic in origin. Hence, you would find that the soil is very productive and highly ideal for crop cultivation.

The great Christopher Columbus was known to haves stopped over at La Gomera to fetch and store water and wine before his historic crossing of the Atlantic in the year 1492. In history, that is significant because that voyage led to the discovery of the Americas. It was said that originally, Columbus was scheduled to stay in the island for just four days. But some occurrences happened inevitably. Columbus got romantically and intimately involved with the then governor of La Gomera, Beatrice de Bobadilla.

Instead of four days, Columbus' voyage was stalled for about a month. It was said that not only was Beatrice the reason for Columbus' decision to stay for a while. It is believed that he completely fell in love with the island. And there are practical and logical reasons for him to do so. Some sources also claim that Columbus intended to return to the Spanish Island after his important voyage.

Being an island, La Gomera has rich vegetation, the reason why the island would look very green and refreshing to the eye from afar. Geographically, La Gomera is situated near the equator. Usually, areas near the equator have extremely hot climates, but not La Gomera.

The average annual temperature is only 22°C. Scientists have an explanation why the island's climate is very much ideal. The trade winds coming from the Atlantic contribute to make the overall climate of La Gomera moderate and extremely mild. The mountains in the small island also help make the overall climate good, cool and very refreshing.

Of course, expect that because La Gomera is an island, there are numerous beach resorts that are located. As a matter of fact, the main tourist activity involves beaches and outdoor activities that such water bodies facilitate. Thus, sports and extreme leisure enthusiasts would very much like staying at this island.

Just like all other attractive islands in Spain and around the world, expect that real estate in La Gomera would make up for a significant investment. For sure, properties and assets in the island would be costly. That is just natural. With the beauty and the exquisite feature of La Gomera, many people would want to own a property in the island.
