Cuenca information, Spain

Cuenca Weekends in Spain are best spent in Cuenca, a province near the heart of the country. Geographically, the province is located near the centre of Spain, adjacent to nearby provinces of Toledo, Teruel, Ciudad Real, Albacete, Guadalajara and Madrid.

The first interesting thing about Cuenca is the origin of its name. There are myths and speculation about it. Some researchers argue that the name Cuenca was derived from the Latin word 'conca', which means 'river basin'. Indeed, the province is situated in an area between the gorges of two major rivers named Huecar and Jucar. There are many scholars that also claim that the word was derived form the name of an Arab castle that once stood in the province, named Kunka.

There are just a little more than 200,000 inhabitants that are living in Cuenca, as of the latest national population count. It is estimate that about a fourth of the provincial population is concentrated in the capital city, which is also called Cuenca. The city is popularly referred to as an 'Eagle's nest' because of its geographical location. Cuenca city is located at the edge of a gorge.

The city of Cuenca is a popular weekend getaway destination especially for local employees. The city is just a ride away from Madrid. You will be needing to take the RENFE rail from Madrid to be able to reach Cuenca within less than an hour. The highway ride in buses and other wheeled vehicles would also be convenient because the roads are well paved and would facilitate for smoother mobility.

The beautiful city of Cuenca has also been recognized and declared as one of the prestigious and highly admired UNESCO World Heritage Site. That is because Cuenca is well distinct by the presence of hanging houses or what are locally called as casas colgadas. Those hanging homes can be found hanging at the edge of the river gorge of Huecar. The structures are must-sees when you drop by and visit the city.

The prevailing weather in the whole of the province is somehow very refreshing and relaxing because it is neither too cold nor too warm. The weather is complementary to the overall aesthetic appeal of the sights and sceneries across the province. Particularly, you surely would be mesmerized by the sight of the gorges during autumn. That is because you would see the Jucar and Huecar gorges as green, yellow and red-coloured beauties.

Like most provinces and cities across the province, Cuenca is also known for the lush of good and well-preserved old buildings and structures. More commonly, the province is more appreciated for its overall natural beauty.

Because the province as a whole is appealing to local and international vacationers and tourists, it’s just logical that local property industry is highly active and appraised. If you are aiming to buy commercial and residential real estate investments, it would be more advisable if you would coordinate well with your reliable real estate broker and dealer. A property investment in Cuenca would surely be worth the efforts.
