What makes Caceres more ideal for tourists and emigrants is the fact that the province is characterized by warm summer and slightly to very mild winter. The prevailing temperature is very ideal for outdoor activities and for outings and sightseeing. That can be the reason why the province is among the most popular tourist and vacation destinations in the country. The UNESCO declared Caceres as a full-pledged World Heritage City in the year 1986. Experts and observers say that the United Nations agency recognized the city's distinct blend of features and architecture that highlight traces of Italian Renaissance years with Northern Gothic, Islamic and Roman influences. That can be because the area had been a venue for many battles that were fought by different leagues of people throughout the entirety of the province's old history. As a matter of fact, Caceres is the sole province in Spain where there still stand 30 different and proud towers erected during the Muslim occupation period in the old country. Torre del Bujaco, one of the towers, has been one of the most popular of such Moro edifices in the Caceres. These towers are unique because everyone knows tha Spain is a dominantly Catholic country. Like all other provinces and cities in Spain, Caceres is very well known and famous for its different festivities called fiestas. There are numerous fiestas that are commemorated by local folk, but the most distinct is the feast of St Jorge in April. The fiesta is so elegant and extravagant that the city's mayor traditionally gives out a fireworks display at the streets. Of course, fiestas in May are so merry. Local food and delicacies are almost always flooding homes and streets every fiesta. As for religious feasts, the commemoration of Holy Week is really worthwhile, especially when the highlight of the Lenten Season, the Easter Sunday, comes. Expect that traditional extravagant celebrations are always practiced and observed. Another interesting activity to be done while in Caceres is shopping. The streets of the city may be small, but they are almost always full of small and portable shops that are widely selling typical and locally made products. The various convents within the province are coming out with traditionally made home pastries and sweets that are sold to tourists and guests. Other popular products of Caceres are cow cheese, chestnuts, paprika, fig cake and hams and other processed food made out of pork. There are also numerous standard hotels that can be found within Caceres. These hotels facilitate the usual influx of tourists and visitors. But more tourists and visitors are deciding to construct homes and townhouses within the province instead of lodging in local five-star hotels. « Return to Caceres |
