Yambol, the City of Zeus. With the wide arrange of real estate available in Yambol, consideration on the current status of the place is of high importance especially if monetary and pleasure is concerned. Consider Yambol (Ямбол), the place where goddess Diane considered it her home. Yambol, Bulgaria is the administrative center of the province and is found at the southeastern area of Bulgaria in the historical region of Thrace with an altitude of 114 meters. It is about 304 km east of Sofia, the capital of Bulgaria. It lays on the riverbanks of the Tundzha together with the Kalofer and Elhovo, which feeds into the longest rivers of the Balkans, the Maritsa on Turkish Territory, into which 50 other tributaries feed. The weather is temperate. Modern day Yambol was founded by Roman Emperor Diocletian and named if “Diospolis” meaning “city of Zeus” in 293 AD. The evolution of the name passed through “Diampolis” and “Diamboly” until finally it settled on Yambol. It was devastated by the invasion of the Avars in 583 AD and later rebuilt. Yambol was liberated from Ottoman rule by the Russian army in 1878 and became part of Bulgaria in 1886. Famous citizens include artists George Papazov and John Popov. Furthermore, these days, the city has almost 86,000 inhabitants, most of who are of the Eastern Orthodox religion. Some portions are Eastern Rite Catholic and Protestant. Places of worship for these religions, as well as the Eskimosque are in evidence around the city. The St. George Church is a symbol of the national struggle for the people in Yambol and was the cultural-religious hub since it was built in 1737 until it was destroyed in the Russian-Turkish war in 1877. Another point of interest is the Yambol Bezisten which is a well-preserved sample of 15th Century architecture, and which doubles as an indoor souvenir market for tourists after its restoration in 1973. The cuisine of Yambol may be sampled at the small restaurants and bars strewn along the city. Remains of early settlement were found in the borders of the city and are preserved at the Yambol Historical Museum as well as the Archeological Museum in Sofia and the Louvre. A stroll along the Tunzha River will bring you to the town park and a visit to the Ormana forest may be worth a visit. The Kabile archeological preserve is just a 10k trek away from the city. Property located within the short distance outside Yambol can be purchased for as low as €7,150 while a one-bedroom apartment in the city itself can go for € 27,100. So while you’re searching for the best place for you to stay either for a holiday or permanent residence, you may want to consider Yambol’s magnificent offer for you: cheaper tax system, availability of notaries for your transfer and legal documentation and an excellent place to stay in the city of gods. « Return to Yambol |
