HASKOVO, BULGARIA Haskovo has a land area of 5,543 km2 and a population of 279,067. This province is composed of the Haskovo town and 35 other villages. The province includes the Valley of Martiza River, Haskovo hills and parts of the Upper Thracian lowlands, Sakar Mountain and the Eastern Rhodopes. Haskovo is one of the oldest settlements in Bulgaria and it celebrated its 1000th anniversary in 1985. The region is characterized by fertile land and a moderate continental climate. They have a good quality of agricultural soils which makes it a good area for corn and grain industry like wheat, barley and maize. Because of the fertile land, the main industry is more on farming and production of vegetable crops like tomatoes, cucumbers and peppers, they also produce water melons and melons and have other fruit bearing trees like apples and pears. They yield an average of 350 kg/decare. Perennial plants like strawberries, raspberries, morello cherries, apricot and peaches also add up to their economic growth. Aside from the fruits, vegetables and grains, Haskovo also produces tobacco. This province has a good strategic location. It is an international commercial and cultural exchange area because of its proximity to the Republic of Greece and Republic of Turkey. A lot of tourists come to visit Haskovo because of its different tourist attractions. One of which is the giant statue of the Virgin Mary and infant Jesus. It has a height of 32-meters and is situated on the Hill of Youth. In the village of Klokotbitza, you can also find the Asenova krepost or fortress. They also have the Hilsari fortress in Haskovo town. This is a middle age castle preserved until these years. Attractive tourist sights are also Kaleto Fortress and "Sharapanite" (with the best kept “sharapani” – wine cellars dated from the ancient Thracian times. For those who prefer the museums, they can visit The Paskalev’s house which is now an ethnographic museum; and the Ivan Dimov Dramatic Theatre, a historical museum art gallery within the area. Before leaving town, you must drop by Shishman’s house where local crafts are displayed. Another unexploited place where tourist frequent is the healing Haskovo mineral springs and the scenic place of Kenane where a marvelous oak forest is located. In Kenane, they also celebrate an annual Colorful Thrace Sings and Dances folk festival. Haskovo is a very relaxing and comfortable place to visit and to live in. It has a scenic view where one can really enjoy many sites. The economy is continuing to improve so it is a very good spot to start a business. Real state properties in the area are available in almost every town of Haskovo. There are several real state companies who offer good deals on properties.
