The state of Vienna is the capital of Austria. It is also one of Austria’s nine states. It is also Austria’s largest city with a total population of about 1.7 million and within the metropolitan area with a population of about 2.2 million. It is the centre of economy, politics and culture of Austria. At the very east of Austria lies Vienna. It is located close to Hungary, Czech Republic and Slovakia. During the time when Vienna was the capital of Austria-Hungary, its population rapidly increased due to the immigration and industrialization from other Empire parts. There was decline during the World War 1 when many of its Czech and Hungarian population returned to there respective original countries. The population of Vienna during the height of its immigration was mostly Hungarian or Slavic descent. Recently the population of Vienna is composed of different nationalities such as people from Turkey and Yugoslavia; some were German and Polish other than those Austrian nationalities. The seat of the Roman Catholic archdiocese is Vienna. Almost half of the Viennese population is a Roman Catholic. About one quarter of the population have no religion at all. Some of the religions in Vienna are protestant, Orthodox, Muslim and Jewish but only a few of the Viennese have these religions. Vienna has a long tradition in both arts and culture which includes opera, classical music, fine arts and theatre. A number of well known opera houses are located in Vienna. Classical concerts are also performed in different concert venues. Many theatres in Vienna are famous and have good reputations. These are one of the highlights in Vienna that certainly attract many tourists. There are also numerous museums found in Vienna that allow visitors to experience the culture, history and arts in Vienna. Vienna is also renowned for its unique Architecture from classical styles to modern. The economy of Vienna is certainly blooming.
