Mauthausen is once a Nazi concentration camp and now it stands to remind the people of Austria the tragedies during World War 2. A former imperial court retreat, Bad Ischl is now a very fashionable spa. Starting from the beautiful Hallstatt village, tourists can tour Salt Mountain and see the salt mines that are still active there.

July and August is the major tourist visitation month in Upper Austria. Some of the areas could be overrun by visitors. If you want a leisurely tour, go to Upper Austria in May.
