Tyrol information, Austria

Tyrol Tyrol is full of wonderful panoramas and outstanding natural creations. Tyrol is blessed with mountains whose peaks are unevenly and beautifully capped with snow and with rivers flowing fast below. You can also see a number of onion-domed churches and breathtaking green meadows. Tyrol is a great place to live, especially for those individuals who love the enjoyment provided by the outdoors. During cold seasons especially in winter you can enjoy skiing in the excellent downhill areas offered in Tyrol and do walking or hiking during the summer.

Tyrol used to be known as the “land in the mountains” before it was given the name Tyrol because almost the entire area of Tyrol is covered with Alps. It is bordered by the Otztaler Alps and the Bavarian Alps. There are more than 700 mountains with heights of over 3000 meters found in Tyrol. The southern half of Tyrol was granted to Italy while the north and east of Tyrol remained in the possession of Austria after the World War 1.

Tyrol has a rich history. It was conquered by the Romans during 15BC. In the 8th century, Bavarian tribes settled in Tyrol. Over the centuries Tyrol has been passed or controlled by non-Tyrolean. Then Tyrol fought for its independence in the so called Tyrolean War of Independence and emerged victorious. They remained under the rule of Franco-Bavarian until the wake of Napoleon’s defeat when Tyrol was returned to Austria. The mountain of Bergisel was then regarded as a symbol of freedom by the Tyrolese ever since those times of turbulence Tyrol had faced.

The life of a Tyrolean has been shaped by the mountains as well as having a Tyrolean identity with a strong sense. It is common to see a Tyrolean wearing their traditional dress called lederhosen with feathered hats as well. Hospitality is a part of the long tradition of Tyrol. They have welcomed many travellers that have crossed the Alps in Tyrol for over centuries. With so many hospitable people in Tyrol it would be enjoyable to live and purchase a property in Tyrol.

The Tyrolean cuisine is also admirable. Many of the dishes in Tyrolean feature cured pork and bacon. Their dishes are fairly hearty. Their traditional dishes includes Tiroler Knodeln which are dumplings with ham cut into small pieces, Grosti which is a potato, onion and meat fried in a pan and the Schlipfkrapfen which are parcels that are like ravioli filled with potato or meat.

Innsbruck is the capital of Tyrol. It is surrounded by mountains and has Baroque and Gothic buildings that are very attractive. Tyrol has an Alpine climate. During winter season tourists visit Tyrol to ski. You should consider living or buying a property in Tyrol.
