Carinthia information, Austria

Carinthia Austria is a country filled with many wonderful states. One of these states is Carinthia. It is located in the southernmost part of the country and it is widely praised for its abundance of stunning mountains and sparkling lakes. Carinthia is like a basin that is within the Alps. The border to Slovenia and Italy is made up of the Karawanken and Carnian Alps. As for the Tauern Mountains, these divide Carinthia from Salzburg. East of Carinthia is Styria, making an unbroken valley with Tyrol’s eastern part which is to the west of Carinthia. The lakes in Carinthia are definite must-sees, Drave being the main attraction.

Carinthia’s capital is Klagenfurt and the main industries of the state are agriculture, forestry, engineering, electronics, and tourism. One can expect a continental climate in Carinthia. The winters are rather long and harsh. The summers are hot and can be moderately wet. For the past few decades, winter in Carinthia has been known to be arid. The state often experiences high fog densities and at times smog during the autumn.

In Carinthia, the major tourist attractions include Villach, the lakes Millstätter See, Faaker See, Ossiachersee, and Wörthersee. Ski resorts like the Hochosterwitz castle, Gurk Cathedral, Heiligenblut, Bad Kleinkirchheim, Gerlitzen, and Nassfeld/Hermagor along with the Großglockner mountain plus alpine sport – famous Nockberge are also popular places to see. Other ski resorts in Carinthia are Turrach located at the border together with Styria, Katschberg and Flachau, both bordering Salzburg.

Other wonderful things to get to know about Carinthia is its exciting places to visit. The city of Friesach is home to a local brewery for beer and summer middle-age spectaculum. Velden is a well-known summer holiday destination situated at Lake Wörthersee. Spittal or Drau is a place where a renaissance castle stands and in which summer comedies are performed. The lake Millstatt is just nearby.

Carinthia is also known for some very delectable cuisines, mostly related to cuisnes in Italy. There you can eat kletzennudel-dried pears filled with sweet noodles, kasnudel-noodles with fresh herbs, curd cheese, and potatoes mixture, glander kas cooked cheese composed of mature curd cheese, butter, and caraway, and reindling cake of yeast dough having cinnamon, sugar, and raisins inside. In Carinthia, you can also enjoy fantastic beer.

In Austria, it can be said that Carinthia is the most autonomous amongst all of the states in the country. Because of its geography, Carinthia is fairly isolated and existed even before Austria was formed. Despite their isolation though, people in Carinthia are not aloof. Instead they are very well-known for being kind and warm-hearted. They are even said to be more warm-hearted than other Austrians. Carinthians are also a proud and rooted people.
